Cat out of Hell

Description

My gosh, this took me forever to do *_* With this, I need 3 or 4 more art for my portfolio... this is killing me-
I've actually started this drawing before colouring Jenny's drawing (a collab between Jenny and me in which I coloured her lineart. But I'm not uploading it here) but I delayed this till later because priorities first XD

This is based on a book called ''Cat Out Of Hell'' by Lynne Truss.

Jenny lent me this book during Art club and after reading it, I thought it was a good read c...: I thought it was creative with it's writing formats. Though, the references made it hard for me to get through the book at times. :/
Because I know I'll forget the story in the future, I brought the book too. XD It is also to support the author--- plus, I like the cover soooo yeah~ :P

The two cats are called ''Roger'' and ''the Captain'' respectively. In the story, Roger is described as ''an unremarkable moggy-type cat--tabby and white. White face and bib. White paws. Tabby back, tail and ears.'' with ''piercing green eyes'' while the Captain is a ''large black cat'' with ''yellow eyes'' and ''enormous'' paws c: This is how I imagine them to be like, based on those descriptions. X3
I didn't use my usual style of drawing cats in this drawing, but instead, a more ''realistic'' looking one cause I thought it fit better X3 I also tried to capture the cat's personalities in this drawing---making Roger look like a smart looking cat and the Captain, a fierce, possessive, strong looking cat. :3
Black and white tabby cats are my favourite, but they are really hard to colour because of their stripes :/

I actually wanted this drawing to just be a sketch with colours, so I had the lineart filled with colours already. But because of that, I had to refine the lineart as it was not well done and make the colours fit in the lineart. The good thing is that my initial lineart isn't too messy XD

I made use of so much warm colours in this drawing that my eyes feel like it's burning while I'm drawing *_* I prefer to colour bright cool colours to dark warm colours ^^''

Because I thought my backlight in Jenny's drawing looked choppy, I tried to smooth the backlight in
this drawing by using the pen and blur tool instead of the airbrush X3

I also tried a different style of drawing fire--- based strongly on this picture: http://www.thealarmco.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/FIRE-2-GENERIC.jpg
It took a long time to draw the fire, but I think it turned out really nice c:

I added textures for the ground using two pictures, one being the Lava rock texture 01 of designinstruct.com/free-resources/textures/lava-rock-texture-pack/
and the other being: hvo.wr.usgs.gov/multimedia/archive/2006/Sep/20060920-2683_CCH_L.jpg
It was a challenge to draw this drawing, especially the lava splashing since I didn't have much references for it :/

But I think hardwork really paid off and I'm really glad of the end result! >D<
